Fees

Our services are free for young people with a Medicare card. If you don’t have a Medicare card, please let us know when you contact us, and we can discuss options.

We’re made for young people, and only young people – ensuring their mental health needs receive the focused attention they deserve.

We provide early intervention and specialised care to young people aged 12-25 years with mental health challenges, helping them get their lives back on track and minimise long-term impacts. This includes services such as case management, medication support, psychological interventions, and family assistance. Our approach provides treatment, care and support for conditions that can’t be adequately addressed in primary care settings.

Individuals holding Health Care Cards are eligible for rebates on medications subsidised by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. Standard prescription fees will apply at your pharmacy for any prescribed medication.

Please consult your treating doctor or healthcare team if you encounter difficulties paying for prescribed medications.

  • Health Care Card and/or concession card (if you have one)

PYMHWS operates within Australia’s public healthcare system. If you are an Australian resident covered under Medicare and choose to be treated as a public patient, you will not be charged for hospital care during your stay. This includes consultations, pathology, radiology, and medication.

If you choose to be treated as a private patient and use private health insurance, all related services will be covered by your insurance. Please discuss this option with your treatment team on admission to ensure clarity on coverage and any potential out-of-pocket costs such as insurance excess fees.

Patients without a Medicare card are classified as a Medicare Ineligible Patient and required to pay for all hospital services. Refer to Patients without Medicare section below for further details.

To receive medical services, you must provide the following information upon arrival:

  • Passport and visa status details, including documentation and date of entry validation
  • Overseas residential address and contact details
  • Contact information during your stay in Australia
  • Mobile phone number and email address
  • Relevant health insurance policy details

Patients without a Medicare card must navigate a different process for accessing healthcare services. If you are from a country without a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement with Australia, you will be classified as a Medicare Ineligible Patient and required to pay for all hospital services. These expenses include hospital stays, diagnostic fees, consultations, pathology, radiology, and medications.

Public hospitals are required to clearly outline the financial responsibilities associated with being classified as a Medicare Ineligible Patient. This includes providing comprehensive information regarding out-of-pocket expenses in a clear way.

Patients holding travel insurance may have the opportunity to submit claims for these costs with their travel insurance provider after fulfilling payment obligations.

As a public healthcare facility, we require all patients seeking free medical care to hold a valid Medicare card. If you are from a country with reciprocal healthcare rights or an asylum seeker or refugee you may also be eligible for free or subsidised care (refer below for further detail).

Reciprocal Health Care Agreements (RHCA)

The Australian Government has RHCAs with a number of other governments. If you are from one of these countries, these agreements may entitle you to limited subsidised health services for medically necessary treatments while visiting Australia.

Residents of countries covered by an RHCA are usually eligible for free emergency treatment under Australia’s Medicare system, should you have an accident while in Australia. It does not entitle you to treatment as a private patient or for planned admissions.

Asylum seekers and refugees

Asylum seekers and refugees are provided with free medical care in Victorian hospitals. Asylum seekers and refugees need to produce appropriate documentation confirming their status from the Department of Home Affairs – Immigration and Citizenship or a recognised asylum support agency.
